5th Sunday after Trinity, June 22nd, 1913.

This being the last Sunday in term I preached in the Cathedral to the students. There was a considerable congregation. I took for my subject the duty of Tolerance, & for my text two passages exhibiting the kindred yet distinct attitudes of Gamaliel & St Paul – Acts v. 38, 39 & 1. Thess. v. 19–22.

Mr & Mrs Harrington were staying for the week–end. Cruickshank & his wife with Turner of Magdalen – who is to receive a Doctor's degree on Tuesday – came to lunch.

I preached in the evening at St Giles' – a poor little church with an insignificant vicar & a congregation of young girls!
