After breakfast I walked to the bookshop of Mr Alfred Bull (formerly Bull & Auroche) & there bought a present for Ralph, whose birthday is tomorrow. I chose a copy of Philo's works published in 1552 from the Royal Press in Paris. I joined my wife at lunch with Mrs Taylor. Baddeley & Miss Stanley were also there. The latter assured me with every appearance of sincerity that she regretted my departure from Westminster. I went to the Athenaeum, while Ella paid a series of calls. I walked back to the Deanery, stopping to visit the bookshops in Paternoster Row, & making some purchases. There was a dinner party. Linetta & Meiklejohn were among the guests. Also the Murray Smiths.
