After breakfast Marsden & I went to Burlington House, & saw the Academy pictures. There were many portraits of men whom I know, but none of outstanding merit. Then we returned to lunch, & afterwards Marsden took his leave.

I went with Gow to the Men's Meeting in the Guildhall, organized in the interest of the Anti 'White–slave' Bill. The Hall was crowded. The Bp. of Hereford presided. Dr Greville Macdonald, St Loe Strachey, & Lord Balfour of Burleigh were the principal speakers. I seconded in the briefest terms a motion appointing a deputation to wait on the Prime Minister.

After dinner I attended a service of intercession in the Nave of the Abbey organized in connection with the forthcoming Missionary Exhibition. Bishop Montgomery gave an address, & in the absence of the Dean, I gave the Benediction.
