Thursday, November 9th, 1911.

The papers are full of Mr Balfour's resignation of the Unionist leadership. He announced the fact very unexpectedly yesterday afternoon to a small meeting in the City.

On Saturday, November 11th, I travelled to Lutterworth, & stayed for the Sunday at the Rectory, where I was entertained kindly by the Aldersons. I preached in the parish church both at Mattins & at Evensong. It is filled with memorials (more or less genuine) of the illustrious Rector of Lutterworth, John Wycliffe. I sate in his chair: preached from his pulpit: & looked at his monument. There are some fine monuments of the Feildings. On Sunday afternoon, Miss Alderson walked with me to Misterton where I called on the Archdeacon, Stocks. The weather was most unpropitious. On Monday, the 13th, I was motored to Coventry, where we visited three fine churches. In the afternoon I returned to town, travelling in company with an agreeable girl, Miss Margery Blackwell.
