St. Stephen's Day, Monday, December 26th, 1910.

A large number of letters in acknowledgment of 'Ecclesiastica' arrived by the morning post. Among these was one from the P.M. marked 'private' telling me that the Bp. of Winchester had accepted the Deanery. I wrote in reply. Thus ends an interval of much mental disturbance, & I am again sent back to my place, with an indication that the 'powers that be' have no use for me.
