21st Sunday after Trinity, October 16th, 1910. Canterbury.

We received the Holy Communion in the Cathedral at the early service. Afterwards we walked round the great church, which looked ravishingly beautiful in the morning sun. At Mattins the Archdeacon ( Spooner) preached. In the afternoon we attended the French Huguenot Service in the crypt. A very small congregation, mostly of young men, assembled. There was something infinitely pathetic in that service in that place. At 6.30 p.m. was the second Evensong. I preached to a large congregation, repeating the sermon of Sept. 25th.

M. Barnabas, the French Minister, came in to supper: a fat, cheery little man. I promised to preach their anniversary sermon next July.
