St Edward's Day, Thursday, October 13th, 1910.

I attended the Holy Communion at 8 a.m. and received the Sacrament. Beeching was celebrant.

At 10.30 a.m. we had an interview with the Lord Chancellor in his room at the House of Lords. He went carefully through the several points of our appeal, and had evidently taken considerable pains to appreciate our case. He was clearly impressed by the complexity of the issues: & perhaps overmuch impressed by the fact that we were challenging an existing situation. We came away with the impression that we should probably not get all we desired, but that the Lord Chancellor was sincerely anxious to discover a modus vivendi.
