22nd Sunday after Trinity, November 7th, 1909.
A fine still morning threatening fog. Knox celebrated at 8 a.m.; 26 comts. I celebrated after Mattins: 92 comts. There was a fairly large congregation at 11 a.m. Alf. Lyttelton & Lord St Aldwyn were present. I preached an old sermon written six years ago for All Saints: "The souls of the righteous are in the Hands of God." In the Vestry Craik told me that Lord Selby's death is announced in the Sunday papers.
The Archdeacon & Mr Gully called on me to arrange for the Memorial Service next Wednesday.
Dr Newman Smyth came to tea. He brought Prof. Briggs's book on "Church Unity" for me to see.
These was a fair, but not crowded, congregation at Evensong. I preached from Rev. XIX. After service, the 'Dead March' was played in regards for the late speaker.
