We were taken to see the most astonishing collection of glass flowers in the Zoological Museum. These are unique, the work of two German brothers, Blaschka.

We lunched pleasantly with Dean Hodges: & then I lectured in the Chapel on "Reunion & Intercommunion" to a full audience: afterwards we had tea with Miss Longfellow, & were shown the poet's house.

Miss Longfellow is a large old lady of an amiable aspect, said to be like her father. The rooms are kept in the state in which the poet left them: & at fixed times are shown to the public.

There was a party at dinner. Prof. Pickering (the astronomer, amazingly well–informed about Mars) & his wife: Mr & Mrs Thayer: & a literary Prof: & his wife.

We went on to a reception in honour of Dr Elliot, whose term of office expires tonight. I was introduced to his successor, Dr Lowell.
