3rd Sunday in Lent, March 3rd, 1907.
A raw morning, with the mist wrapping everything in a grey friar's cloak. I assisted Knox at 8 a.m., when there but 28 commts.
The mist continued long enough to spoil the congregation. However the Speaker was in his place; and among others, I recognised Chancellor Edmonds, whose admirable speech in the last Convocation had greatly pleased me. My subject was 'Prejudice', and my text the famous cavil, "Is not this the Carpenter". There were but 62 commts.
The County Council Elections yesterday resulted in a great defeat of the Progressives. The fact this result was declared in the Sunday papers probably acted as a distracting influence.
Bob Bineham, Bennett, & Abbott came to tea.
The congregation at Evensong was disappointing. I preached on "Back–sliding".
Albert Saxton came to supper.
I attended the Speaker's reception at on Friday the 8th March.

4th Sunday in Lent, March 10th, 1907.
The weather is warm and wet. There were 29 commts at 8 a.m. There was a fair congregation in S. Margaret's at 11 a.m. including the Speaker, and a rather large (comparatively) number of members. I preached on "Christian Prayer". It nearly upset me to see poor Mackay, with a ravaged face sitting under the pulpit. He takes his wife's death much to heart.
Uncle Charles and others came to lunch.
Mr Tennant came to tea, & engaged me in much discourse. Finally he borrowed the M.S. of my morning sermon.
The wet threatenings of the day gathered force during the afternoon, & matured into more or less continuous rain at time of Evensong.
I preached an old sermon not without disturbance from coughing. McAdam Muir was in church, & came into the Vestry after service. He is melancholy on account of his wife's death.
