2nd Sunday in Lent, February 24th, 1907.
I celebrated in S. Margaret's at 8 a.m. There were but 22 commts.
At 11 a.m. the Congregation was but small: and my sermon, a very dull one, was listened to with evident weariness.
Rowland Prothero & his wife & daughter came to lunch. In the afternoon Harold & I went to the Grafton Square, Congregational Church, and I addressed the Men's Meeting on "Elements of hope in the Religious Outlook". There were about 1100 men present, and they were very enthusiastic.
There was a fair congregation at Evensong. I preached an old sermon. The Lord Provost of Glasgow (Bilsland)and his wife were in Church, & came in to the Vestry afterwards. Raleigh also was in the congregation, & came in to supper. We sate in my study & talked for some while: &
then I walked as far as Charing Cross with him.
