I received a formal communication from the Clerk of Senate of Glasgow University informing me that the said Senate resolved to confer upon me the Hon. degree of D.D. This is a pleasing compliment, and, so far acceptable, as it might be useful to remove the traditional dislike of the House of Commons to have anyone below the degree of a doctor to minister to them. In case the Archdeacon receives his long–expected preferment, I might conceivably be asked to act as Chaplain.

Ella returned from Torquay. I was engaged with my class, so that Harold met her at Paddington.
