14th Sunday after Trinity, September 13th, 1903.

16 communicants at 8 a.m. including 3 members (Saxton, Gibbs, Chart) of the Guild of Perseverance. Solemn autumnal morning bringing with it tender suggestion of dying summer & faint menace of winter at hand. Service consolatory & helpful. The only way out from the despair of one's own amazing & (as it seems) incorrigible inadequacy, & the tanglement of conditions & circumstances the most extraordinary conceivable is still to the Altar of Christ. "Show Thou me the way that I should walk in for I lift up my soul unto Thee."
