Cocken Hall

Cocken Hall is a residence on the northern bank of the River Wear near Chester-le-Street. It had belonged to the Priory of Durham, but after the dissolution served variously as the home of wealthy Newcastle families and briefly, a convent. It had fallen into disuse at the beginning of the twentieth century, vandalised by suffragettes, and was occupied by the 18th battalion of the DLI (Durham Pals) during the war; it was demolished afterwards.

Not mentioned in any journals.
