Nevile Meyrick Henderson
Nevile Henderson (1882-1942; ODNB), diplomatic service from 1905, with postings from 1922 in Constantinople, Cairo, and Paris; ambassador to Argentina, 1935-7, and to Germany, 1937-9, where he became a committed advocate of appeasement of the Nazi regime; after his recall to Britain in Sept. 1939, he became a belated critic of Hitler.
