Arthur Churchman (1867-1949; WWW), Baron Woodbridge, partner in family tobacco firm, until merger with other firms; director, then vice-chairman of British-American Tobacco Company to 1923; lieut. col. in territorial army to 1917; controller of military oil production, ministry of munitions, 1917, when made bt.; MP (C) Woodbridge, 1920-9; a prominent figure and philanthropist in Suffolk; mayor, Ipswich, 1902, and high steward, 1932-49; son killed in action 1918.
