Henry Snell
Henry Snell (1865-1944; ODNB), socialist campaigner, first through the ILP and then the Labour party, and secularist; MP (Lab) East Woolwich, 1922-31; chairman, British Union of Ethical Societies; secretary, Secularist Education League, 1907-22; Baron Snell of Plumstead, 1931; maintained his independence, both from the ILP and Ramsay MacDonald and the National Government, although paid moving tribute to MacDonald and his family in the House of Lords on his death on 17 Nov. 1937.
