(Reginald) Clifford Allen
Clifford Allen (1889-1939; ODNB), peace campaigner and pacifist, instrumental in the formation of the No-Conscription Fellowship during the First World War, serving a two-year sentence of hard labour for his refusing non-combatant positions'; leading figure in the Independent Labour Party until his resignation in 1929 over his support for Ramsay MacDonald; Baron Allen of Hurtwood, 1932; sought peace between Germany and Britain, and defended the Munich Agreement; but condemned Nazi anti-Semitism.
