Daniel Macaulay Stevenson

Daniel Stevenson (1851-1944; ODNB), shipbroker and coal exporter, imbued with a civic ethos; served on Glasgow city council, and as lord provost, 1911-14; bt, 1914; in later life gave away much of his fortune to charities and universities, 1922-44, including support for student exchange schemes between the University of Glasgow and institutions in Spain and Germany; endowed the Stevenson lectureship in citizenship, 1921.
