Arnold Wilson (1884-1940; ODNB), army 1903-9; Indian civil service, 1909-20, with posts in India and Central Asia; political reisdent, Persian Gulf, 1918-20; KC (Indian Empire) 1920; director, Anglo-Persian Oil Company, 1920-32; MP (Nat. C) Hitchin, 1933-40; prolific author and published diarist; supporter of appeasement; volunteered 1939, aged 55, for RAF service; killed when plane destroyed during Dunkirk campaign, May 1940.
