Leonard [Goldsmid-] Montefiore (1889-1961; ODNB), son of Claude Montefiore, sharing his anti-Zionism, though preferring Reform Judaism to his father's Liberal Judaism; Balliol Coll., Oxford; social work at Toynbee Hall; army service 1914-19; warden of West London Synagogue, 1921-4, 1929-32, later treasurer and a vice-president; president, Anglo-Jewish Association 1926-39; chairman, Jewish Board of Gaurdians, and members of numerous further Jewish associations; joint chairman of the Jewish Board of Deputies' Joint Foreign Committee, with responsibilities for Jewish victims of foreign persecution; chairman, Jewish Refugee Committee.
