Clement Webb (1872-1946; ODNB), theologian and philosopher of religion; m. (1905) Eleanor Joseph (1869-1942), headmistress of Leeds high school; first holder of the Nolloth chair in the philosophy of the Christian religion, Univ. of Oxford, 1920-30; theology influenced by Josiah Royce, Hans Driesch, and Bernard Bosanquet, leading contemporary philosophers; Gifford lecturer, Univ. of Aberdeen, 1918-19, from which was published God and personality(1918) and Divine personality and human life (1920); FBA, 1927; active scholar in retirement, including the Olaus Petri lectures at the University of Uppsala, Religious thought in England from 1850 (1933).
