Derek ('Dick) Balfour Elliott
Derek ['Dick'] Elliott (1913-43), another 'son' figure for Henson, although according to Owen Chadwick (Chadwick, Henson, p. 326), one with special importance; education paid for by Henson following his father's death at Russian hands; ordained by Henson in 1938 (see Volume 72 [128] and [123] for the circumstances of their first acquaintance, and V82 [19] for the development of their relationship, and Henson's assumption of the role of 'Guardian'); curate, St Mary the Virgin, Norton, dio. of Durham, 1937-40; served in the Green Howards as a military chaplain; captured at Tobruk and died in an Italian prisoner-of-war camp.
