Arthur Wynne Morgan Bryant

Arthur Bryant (1899-1985; ODNB), popular and prolific historian of England since earliest times; reputation established with Charles II and his three volume biography of Samuel Pepys, 1933-8; developed close links with the Conservative party in the interwar period, although support for the policy of appeasement overlaid by Nazi sympathies; sought to distance himself from the latter with a series of stirring patriotic histories intended to strengthen civilian and military morale during the Second World War, commencing with English Saga (1940). See Volume 54.
