Lettice Jowitt
Lettice Jowitt (1878-1962), leading figure in the University settlement movement; co-founded Bristol University Settlement in 1911; first warden of Bensham Grove Settlement, Gateshead, 1919-29; founder and first Warden of Rock House educational settlement, Seaham, 1931-7; engaged in educational and relief work during the Second World War, working with Polish refugees in Tanganyika and Uganda; active Quaker; brother of William Jowitt.
