Richard Hurrell Froude
Richard Froude (1803-36; ODNB), Church of England clergyman, prominent in the launch of the Oxford Movement; fellow and tutor of Oriel Coll., Oxford; influenced his undergraduate tutor, John Keble, and J.H. Newman - a fellow tutor at Oriel - in taking the Church in a Catholic direction; a major force behind the publication of Tracts for the Times (1833-41); died early from tuberculosis; see Vols 54, 59.
