Henry Herman Slesser

Henry Slesser (1883-1979; WWW), barr.; counsel to the Labour party. 1912; solicitor-general in first Labour government, 1924, even though not an MP and had to be specially appointed as KC to meet the normal expectations of the office; Kt, 1924, another expectation of his office; MP (Lab) Leeds South East, 1924-9; a lord justice of appeal, 1929-40; an anglo-catholic from 1920, for a period to 1929 chairman, English Church Union executive committee; involved in the Distributist movement led by G.K. Chesterton in the interwar period; joined the Roman Catholic church 1946.
