Philip Strong (1899-1983; ODNB), ord. 1923; curate of Tyne Dock, 1922-6; vicar of Christ Church, Leeds, 1926-31; vicar of St Ignatius, Sunderland, 1931-6; bishop of New Guinea, 1936-62; archbishop of Brisbane, 1962-70; primate of Australia, 1966-70; KBE, 1970; despite doctrinal differences - Strong was an evangelical - remained close to Henson before becoming a bishop; correspondence and an unpublished memoir of Henson are included in Strong's papers in the National Library of Australia.
