William Walsham How (1833-97; ODNB), Wadham Coll., Oxford; bishop suffragan of Bedford, 1879-88; bishop of Wakefield, 1888-97.Renowned for his pastoral work in Shropshire and the East End of London, and for his devotional writings, compilations of prayers, and collections and writing of hymns, including the official jubilee hymn in 1897; his Manual for the holy communion (1868) remained in print for many years, and sold over 700,000 copies.
