Constance Georgine Markievicz
Constance Markievicz [née Gore-Booth] (1868-1927; ODNB), countess in the Polish nobility by marriage (1900) to Count Casimir Dunin-Markievicz; Irish nationalist and suffragist; as a member of Sinn Fein and the Irish Citizen's Army, imprisoned four times from 1916 to 1920 for her part in revolutionary activities (including the Easter Rising) and on charges of sedition; released from prison in 1921 under the general amnesty of the Anglo-Irish Treaty, which she opposed; first female MP as Sinn Fein member for Dublin, 1918 (though did not take her seat); TD for Dublin South in the Dail, 1921-2, 1923-27; minister of labour in the Irish government, 1919-22; Ella's distant cousin.
