Shute Barrington

Shute Barrington (1764-1826; ODNB), bishop of St Davids,1769-82, and Salisbury, 1782-91; bishop of Durham, 1791-1826. He was a friend of Walter Scott, who described him as 'the honor'd Barrington' in his poem 'Harold the Dauntless', canto IV (1817).
