Arthur Bigge (1849-1931; ODNB), baron Stamfordham, 1911; private secretary to Queen Victoria, 1895-1901, and to George, prince of Wales, 1901-1910; private secretary (joint, 1911-13, sole 1913-31) to George V; a crucial figure in shaping the modern British monarchy, important in successive political crises during the 1910s and 1920s.
