I worked at a sermon for the Freemasons at Hartlepool tomorrow: walked round the Park: and collected materials for the sermon to the Oddfellows on May 24th. Ought I to connect my preaching with "Empire Day"?
We gave a dinner party in honour of the youngest Hedley girl who has married one of the County Council officials. Dr McCullagh & his son the major, and our two Americans together with ourselves made up the company. Considering the handicap of deafness, the conversation was well maintained. Dr McCullagh told me that both Bernard Pares and Owen Seaman came to Bishop Auckland as university extension lecturers when Bishop Westcott reigned here.
