Wednesday, May 22nd, 1929.

I remained in bed by the Doctor's admonition until the afternoon, the closeness of the day making that situation more than commonly disgusting!

Knight of Ryhope, writing to thank me for help on Sunday, takes occasion to press on me the merits of J.: and I thought it well to 'bell the cat' by writing directly to J. and advising him to seek a curacy in another diocese, where he cd earn for himself a standing, & not compel me to communicate his record.

The Bishop of Jarrow write to say that the Dean & Chapter have nominated Cecil Booth the Curate in Charge of Cleadon Park, to the Vicarage of Holy Trinity, South Shields, vacant by the sudden death of the Revd A. R. Stiggall.

I wrote to Cunningham, the Head of Westcott House, Cambridge, begging him to put me into touch with a clergyman whom I could fitly ask to be domestic chaplain.

There are about 13,000 more male than female voters in the County of Durham. This at least is something to the good.
