Ascension Day, May 9th, 1929.

Lionel and I left the castle at 9.45 a.m., and, after picking up Lazenby in Durham, motored to Easington Colliery where I consecrated the Church of The Ascension. There was a large congregation, & a good muster of clergy. After the service I lunched with a local doctor who is a Presbyterian. We went on to Preston, where I consecrated a new Burial Ground, and gave an address. We had tea with the vicar, Thompson, & then motored to Monkheseldon, where I confirmed 57 parsons in the parish church. Then we returned to Auckland.
