Monday, February 27th, 1928.

Copies of "the Book and the Vote" were sent to:

1. The Dean of Westminster.

2. Canon Vernon Storr

3. Bishop E. S. Talbot.

4. Sir George Murray

5. Rev Charles L. Warr

6. Lord Eustace Percy.

7. The Vice– Chancellor of Cambridge.

I wasted the morning in writing letters, and clearing my table. In the afternoon I walked in the Park with Lionel. Later we motored to Chester–le–Street, where I confirmed 197 persons in the parish church. Storr, writing to acknowledge a copy of my book, says:–

"I think, since all political parties want to get the subject out of the way before an Election, that the chances of the Book passing are better than they have been, though the Home Secretary says otherwise."

I myself consider that the principal danger now is such a weakening on the side of the Episcopate as will compromise the prospects of the Book in the Church in order to secure its passage through the House of Commons by unwise and superfluous amendments.
