The night was again dreadful, & started me for the day in a jaded condition. My almost complete immunity from serious illness throughout life makes this experience of it infinitely trying. The meals are martyrdoms: & every night a purgatory! Mrs Frank Priestman sent me some roses with her love. Beyond the doctors & the banker I was not molested by visitors during the morning. It would appear that the Abp. Of C. & his colleagues have brought themselves into a situation which cannot but be very humiliating. Comparisons are made between Cardinal Bourne's message which was clear, relevant, & useful: & that of his Grace & the bishops, which was indefensible, unwise, & likely to do much harm in the future.
