Saturday, November 14th, 1925.

But now as I began to say sith [sic] all names spoken or written he but images, if ye set ought by the name of Jesus spoken or written, why should ye set naught by His image painted or carven that representeth His holy person to your remembrance as much & more too as doth His name written? Nor these two words, Christus crucifixus, do not so lively represent us he remembrance of His bitter passion as doth a blessed image of the crucifix neither to layman nor unto a learned.

This is poor dear Marion's birthday. The frost holds. Trotman came to lunch, and to talk over the question of the domestic chaplaincy. It appears that he is in treaty with authorities for appointment to an Indian Chaplaincy, which might mean his departure from England in April, and would mean it in September. I suggested that he might hold the chaplaincy for the interval, & he asked time to reflect.

I left Darlington at 5.1.a.m., and travelled through to Leeds, where I arrived at 6.33p.m. & drove to E. Kitson Clark, Meanwoodside, Meanwood.
