I managed to finish a sermon for the G.F.S. After breakfast I motored to Durham, & had an interview with Haslewood at his own request. He is a strange man, & leaves on me an unpleasant impression. Then I licensed a curate, Evans, to Winlaton. After lunching with J. G. Wilson, I presided over the Board of Finance, & the Committee of Conference. Then I went to Hatfield Hall, & addressed a meeting of the League of Nations Union. Next, I went to the Cathedral, & preached to an immense congregation of girls, members of the G.F.S. Then I returned to Auckland in time for dinner.

Lord Darling sends me a little volume of his own verse, "On the Oxford Circuit & Other Verses": and also "Ventures in Verse by Members of the Scratch Society", which includes 4 short poems by Diana. Gore sends me his tract: "The Anglo–Catholic Movement Today", which I read through at the Deanery, Canterbury.

The Editor of the 'Westminster Gazette' writes to ask for an article on 'Prohibition'; & the Editor of the 'Evening Standard' suggests that I should write on the 'Thirty–nine Articles'.
