Thursday, April 16th, 1925.

I may claim what I think few in this room can claim, that before I went to Oxford more than thirty years ago I had read every one of Scott's novels at least three times, and I do not believe that one quinquennium has passed without my re reading them all since that period.

I worked on at the Book, & completed the chapter on 'Spiritual Healing', which is mainly a criticism of Harold Anson's book.

Mr Merrefield, the Rector of Etherly, called to see me respecting a young man, whom he hopes to secure as a curate, & to whom he has obtained permission to offer a title. He is very pleased with the fact that his communicants on Easter Day, exceeded 200. His population however exceeds1800!

Ernest, Crawfurd, & I walked round the Park. Dr & Mrs McCullagh, Capt. Hyslop, & his colleague, & young Loft came in to dine before going to Durham with Ella, Fearne, & Crawfurd for the Dance in aid of the Church Lads Brigade.
