Tuesday, December 23rd, 1924.
I spent the morning in writing letters & sending Christmas presents. It is a kindly, foolish custom, also costly, but it tends to break the monotony of existence.
I received from Lazenby a hearty, indeed an enthusiastic eulogy of the Charge; and he says that his friend Sir Alfred Appleby "was so much impressed with all you said and the way you said it that he immediately procured a number of copies and sent them off to his friends, one of whom was Lord Dawson". On the other hand, Cruickshank demurs to what I said about "Copec", though he does not appear to have grasped my argument.
I sent copies of the charge to the following persons:
1. Arthur Benson.
2. H. M. Spooner
3. Lord Cave.
4. Frank Pember
5. Canon Sinker
6. Lord Sands.
7. Lawrence Hardy.
8. Lord Daring
9. Abp. Söderblom.
10. Bishop Lawrence
11. Lord Muir Mackenzie
12. Sir G.A. Smith
13. The Dean of Exeter
