The weather was wild, windy, and wet all the morning. It mended in the afternoon, & when Clayton & I walked round the Park with the dogs, it was even fine.

I wrote an address on 'Preaching' for the Ordination candidates.

Ruth Spooner arrived during the afternoon on a short visit.

The men did at last start work on laying the cable which should link up the electric light installation with the current supplying main. I began to hope that the light might be available for the Ordination Candidates.

Lord Long's death is announced in the newspapers. He was no more than 70 years old. He shewed me some kindness, and, when on my nomination to the bishoprick of Hereford. I was much defamed & insulted, he got up a little dinner party at the House of Commons, & entertained me. This was a kindness which, at the time, was very acceptable.
