I completed my letter to William, which will, perhaps, have a certain interest as registering the sentiments with which I parted from him.

That inveterate chatterbox, the Revd P. Y. Knight, Vicar of Ryhope, lunched here. He has just returned from his holiday, and more talkative than ever. He told me that his health was still dubious, and that he would be glad of an easier living.

I travelled to Liverpool by a train which left Darlington at 5.50 p.m. and arrived at 10.20 p.m. I was met on the platform by Mr Douglas Horsfall, & carried to his house, Mere Bank.
