I wrote a sermon on the Shortage of clergy for Liverpool. Then I read through a novel which had been sent me by the author, Mr John Knipe, "Whited Sepulchres". It is not without power, but its suggestions against the Papists & Anglo–Catholics are extravagant.
The "Times" prints on its front page a letter from Bp. Talbot advocating the Winchester Bill. It makes almost a personal matter of the division of the diocese, & will probably carry the measure through the H. of L. My letter on the other side has been suppressed or held over: & this may mean that the Editor has "come down on the other side"!
