Ravensworth writes pleasantly about his week–end. "Speaking as Prov. G.M. for Durham I cannot say how highly I value these masonic Services at your lovely Chapel which appeal so strongly to the Brethren. Your words are always so helpful and put Masonry invariably on the high level which should be its object, & which in my humble way I am always trying to support. Thank you again & again, & may we look forward to many more such gatherings". Clearly, in spite of the "Church Times", the Freemasons of Durham are far from being anti–Christian.
Clayton & I Motored to Stanhope, where I confirmed about 45 persons. After the service we had tea with Shebbeare, in Butler's Rectory.
At 7 p.m. I confirmed 125 persons in Coxhoe Church; there was a fair proportion of men & lads. The church was crowded, and the service reverent, &, I trust, edifying: After service we returned to the Castle.
