I worked at the sermon all the morning. The curate who is carrying on the work at Houghton–le–Skerne during the illness of the Vicar came to lunch. He did not make a favourable impression on me, but appearances are untrustworthy. After his departure, I played bowls with William. Then I wrote letters.
A cheque for £23. arrived in payment for the Edinburgh Article.
