Palm Sunday, March 25th, 1923.

Almighty and everlasting God, who, of thy tender love towards mankind, hast sent thy Son, our Saviour Jesus Christ, to take upon him our flesh, and to suffer death upon the cross, that all mankind should follow the example of his great humility; mercifully grant, that we may both follow the example of his patience, and also be made partakers of his resurrection; through the same Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

A Gregorian collect freely rendered in the great Cranmerian fashion:

Omnipotens sempiterne deus qui humano generi ad imitandum humilitatis exemplum salvatorem nostrum carnem sumere, et crucem eubire fecisti: concede propitius ut et patientic ipsius habere documenta, et resurrectionis consortia mereamur. Per eundem do.

This collect presents a theory of the Atonement which offends no sentiment of reason, or equity. It appears to be based on the great Christological passage, Philippians ii. 5f, which forms the Epistle.

I celebrated the Holy Communion in the Chapel at 8 a. m.:and spent the morning in my study reading & preparing notes for use later. In the afternoon I confirmed 230 candidates in South Church. Among them was confirmed John, the butler's boy, & one of the gardener's daughters. At Evensong I preached in the Mission Room at Leeholme, a hamlet in the parish of Coundon, where the deacon, Petitjean, ministers.
