Thursday, January 19th, 1922.
William kept his bed with a headache, & other signs of ailment. The doctor was reassuring, but spoke of his not resuming work for a week. One only realizes the indispensableness of a chauffeur when he is hors de combat. Clayton & I travelled to Hartlepool by train which took nearly 3 hours to do what the motor would do in one. I dedicated the War–memorial in Holy Trinity Church. We caught a fairly early train, & reached the Castle about 10.15 p.m.
Ernest returned to his duties at Sedbergh School.
