Wednesday April 21st 1920.

The weather mended, but continued to be cold. I spent the morning on the Swedish lectures, being interrupted by a visit from Mr Hill of Orleton Court, who came to invoke my good offices in securing a suitable clergyman for the vacant parish of Orleton. The income is about £200 per annum. The late incumbent must have been an oddity. Being addressed by a churchwarden when vested for service, he replied severely: "Sir, how dare you address me when in my canonicals!".
