Friday, January 2nd, 1920.

[Reading: Rashdall's Atonement.]

Hardly had I begun work on the Swedish lecture before Lilley came in, and disposed of a good hour of my working time. Then I completed the revision of my sermon. After lunch Ella and I motored to Abbey Dore & Bacton, and made some calls. There was a lady staying with Mrs Partridge who had but recently returned from internment in Germany. She gave a woeful account of the situation in that country. The people are desperate, and the danger of their "going Bolshevist" is neither remote nor inconsiderable.
